Analysing Radio Drama.
The Archers.
Plot
The archers is a soap opera, set in a fictional village called Ambridge in the country of Borsetshire (between Worcestershire and Warwickshire), in the East Midlands. Brian gets ready for his first shoot of the season as will discussed his wedding plans and Brian tells Jenifer about Will turning into a keeper who is first class. Jenifer asks Peggy (mum) what she would really like to do for her birthday but she is a bit stumbled for words when her mum replies saying she wants to go for lunch as Grey Gables with her whole family. Adam feels torn apart by Brian and Debbie’s plans for the dairy project and he gets really angry because he wasn’t told before it was taken to the board who can give permission to touch the land, but Brian reminds Adam that the most of the share of the land is his. Adam is shocked as Brian goes ahead with the dairy project. This leaves Jennifer frustrated that Adam and Brian couldn’t come to an agreement and get along.
The Archers is set on a farm, outside and inside in a family home. The target audience for this radio drama would be adults being broadcasted in the week in the evening. When the scene changes in the radio drama the voices fade out and it goes quiet for a couple of seconds. The characters are classed as middle class characters with country accents. There are many sound effects throughout the radio drama like door bells, telephones and pub scene sounds. The sounds and voices in the radio drama make it feel like you are there with the characters because it crates and image in your head that follow the characters throughout the radio drama. The characters are all related- family and you can tell when there is a character change because of the different accents used and the voices of each character.
Plot
James wife died which put his life aside by drinking and gambling all the time, he made alot of mistakes in his life like not turning up to work on time, because of this he was going to be dismissed from the service he’s in, but his boss decides to leave him and give him another chance to prove he is good enough to stay in the job.
The radio drama James Bond- You only live twice is a sad radio drama because of what happens in it. The target audience for this radio drama is adults and young adults; it would be broadcasted at the weekend in the middle of the day. The radio station it will be broadcasted on is BBC radio 4. The voices heard during the radio drama are both men and women but we only hear small parts of the women speaking, the voices are very high class and posh accents used. There are a few sound effects in the radio drama such as doors opening, bottles clanging against glasses, people walking and crowds of people talking, with different accents used.
The Rivals, murder by proxy.
Plot
The Rivals is a country house murder, an uncle of the Mark and Jonathan was murdered leaving the family and girlfriend Julia who Jonathan wants to marry, shocked of what to think. It turns out that Mark killed his and Jonathan’s uncle by poisoning him and then shooting hi, Mark is round out and is taken into prison.
The rival’s murder by proxy is set in the countryside/on a farm. The target audience is middle aged people (adults) on the radio station BBC radio 4 the time of broadcasting is in the evening when adults can sit down listen to it and relax. The voices are mainly young men and young women but at some points we hear some old men talking. The class of the women and men are middle class as they have posh countryside accents. Throughout the radio drama there are a few sound effects we hear such as: water being poured into a bucket, countryside sounds, horses walking, and metal scraping against metal and also church bells ringing. The sound effects and voices used make the characters seem realistic and like you are actually with them. Sometimes there is violin music and piano music playing over the top of the characters speaking.
